Richelle,
Thank you for the invite to the clinic. Do you know what the date(s) will be? Also, here is a little update on how we are doing since we brought our little fiery shoulder home..

I can't believe its been only a little over 2 months since we brought our little baby home because we can't imagine life without him. We went ahead and picked the name Larry and just assumed he is a male. Although with as much as he loves Jason I wouldn't be surprised to hear our little boy is a she! We knew Larry was the right fit right away on the drive home because he was just so content and friendly riding out of his carrier with me in the passenger seat. Ever since he has just had the best personality. He is such a social bird and will spend time playing with anyone who is visiting the house. He even loves going on road trips to visit grandma and our skydiving club.. he'd do anything for a new place to explore! He loves all kinds of foods, but don't worry we have your food list Do's and Don'ts posted to the fridge. He loves to take baths and loves to carry around and chase his little cat balls with bells in the middle. Once and a while he will even roll onto his back and kick the ball up in the air for as many times in a row as he can without it falling. He loves to sing along to music and is becoming sort of potty trained. When we take him out of the cage he will now wait to poop until he is on his playstand and actually tell him to go "potty." Of course he still go unpredictably but he is getting better about waiting until he is off your shoulder and you tell him to go "potty."

We can't thank you enough for doing such a great job raising these birds. We are so happy with Larry. Don't be surprised if you get a call or email from us within the next couple of years looking to add to our family!

Hello Richelle,

I have been meaning, for the past few weeks, to send you a note to thank you for having provided me with such a wonderful pet bird.  About 6 weeks ago, I picked up a pineapple conure from you (his name is now Banjo), and he is just about the sweetest thing ever.  You guys were very helpful, advising me which birds would be easier to keep--because of noise--in an apartment and you helped allay my fears in general after I'd been spooked by going to some unsavory breeders in search of a pet.  I'm enormously glad that I was able to find you guys because Banjo is just a delight and totally brightens my days.

Everyone who meets him is so impressed with how friendly he is and how willing he is to go to and from new people.  He is also completely docile going on trips in the car in his travel cage, and I also take lots of walks with him--right in the middle of downtown Chicago--while he is on my shoulder in his harness.  Basically, he is game for just about anything.  Our only disagreements seem to be actually getting him into that harness, and he also only likes to eat the red and purple food pellets in his mix. Ha!  It is truly hilarious.

I've been working on some tricks with him as well, and he is very smart!  He will do pretty much anything for millet.  So far, he knows how to turn around, stand on one foot and extend one wing when you say "Ballerina!", give a kiss, shake hands, and high five.  He can also flap his wing to say hello but it is so fast that it is nearly invisible to the naked eye!
Anywho, this is all to say that Banjo is a delightful pet and I'm thrilled to have him around.  Thanks so much for all of the time that you guys put into making him so sweet and friendly!

Many thanks,

Hi,

Just thought I'd let you know that Sparky's doing great! He's growing and getting quite playful. He's been learning tricks, like shaking his foot for a treat, waving bye, bye, and I'm in the process of teaching him to do a flip over my finger. He's still just as sweet as ever, although, I do notice he's started to try the bluffing thing once in a while, usually in his cage. But, its just bluffing, and never bites. He spends his time out of the cage with us everyday when we are home. He's also established his bedtime around 8:00 p.m., and he always sleeps in that felt ring that I bought from you. I'm so glad I bought him that, that is his bed. He seems pretty outgoing and doesn't mind going by anybody. He seems to nip the dog's toenails and the cat's tail for fun. Its so funny, he nips them, then quickly turns his back, like he didn't do anything. He is an absolute joy to be around, and we couldn't be happier. I've included a recent picture of Sparky.

Bye for now, Laura - Wisconsin 2010

I figured I better send you and update on Kai....Last night he was a little anxious when I put him in his cage for bedtime, I'm sure it's a combination of new home, new cage and not being with his buddy Berry. But I talked to him awhile and we dimmed the lights and he was just fine. When I got up this morning I almost forgot he was here he was so quiet in his cage, he loves that foraging toy I put in there! So I let him out, and at 1st he did'nt want to step up, so I just took a hold of his foot and he got his face real close to mine and said "HI KAI" what a nut he then stepped right up to go to his play stand. Richelle I'm so glad we did this I just love and expect him to be part of our family for a long time!!!! OMG ! He's A motor mouth !
He keeps us in stitches, never a dull moment with him around I tell ya. We both love him alot and I can't imagine not having him here. He's like one of our kids !

Kai is doing great!
We both just love that bird! He's certainly is a sweetie, he comes outside with us alot. Alan made a perch we can just leave out there for him. Our 4 yr. old grandson handles him alot, takes him out of the cage and stuff only thing is Kai is a bit heavy for his arm! It's funny to see.

Richelle,

It was certainly a  pleasure to meet you in person and to pick up little Kasha. Dina and I have had some experience bringing home new birds over the years, but I am positively awestruck (and very smitten) with Kasha. First of all, her sociable nature was very apparent. She traveled extremely well and ate and chirped happily in the carrier on the ride home. We got her perches, toys, and food set in her cage and let her rest for a while-- she did go to sleep comfortably for a couple of hours. Her cage spans the living room and dining room and she moved over to the dining room side when we were eating dinner and then to the living room side when we were there afterwards. She explored her cage, sampled all of the food and then came out and went to each of us and then played for a long time in her play yard that we set up on a snack tray with the big toy we got from you. She climbed up and down the ladders, ate and drank out there as well. Tonight I gave her a misting with a spray bottle and she was calm and seemed to enjoy that. She does preen a lot. Our other birds came home and shivered without eating for about 2 days and flustered at the slightest disturbance. Kasha curled up in her food dish in the cage last night-- we did keep a night light on for her as you suggested and she was just fine. She is gentle and calm even when the kids get noisy and giggle when she walks on them.  She is already right at home here and everyone adores her.
Again, please accept our gratitude for the terrific job you do as a breeder and the terrific start and loving environment that you provide these little creatures with.  It really shines through!

Best regards,

We had arranged to purchase 1 cockatiel and during our wait (awaiting the birds to be weaned off hand feeding) Richelle kept us updated both via e-mail and via pictures. It was like we were anxiously awaiting a 4th child of ours. We picked up Zoey and had her for 2 days when my wife came to me and wanted another cockatiel. So back to Richelle we went and later picked up Emily. They are both now about 3 months old and are a part of our family. They chirp up a storm when they hear the door(s) and know we’re home, we grocery shop with human food(s) for them on our list, and the list continues. Richelle was a great resource for us for questions, suggestions, ideas, wing clippings, purchasing toys and the cage from, etc. We have shopped around and her prices for food and toys is much cheaper than that of the retail stores, so we will be back for food purchases.

Sherbert is such a Ray of Sunshine. Even her vet raved about her beauty, personality and health. Sherbert readily layed on her back for her first professional manicure. The Vet and her assistant were in total awwwe. It even surprised me! While I would love to take the credit for Sherbert’s “report card” I couldn’t, because the Vet made the comment: “you are really lucky, Sherbert clearly was handled gently and regularly to be so social and relaxed. Furthermore, her flawless plummage and solid stocky build reflects a well balanced introduction to a spectacular diet.” She asked me who the breeder was. I told her. Since I only had Sherbert for 3 days before her Vet visit, we both know, the Report Card is yours and thought you’d be pleased to hear the results of your hard work. Oh, and Yes, Sherbert is a GIRL. She plays, ‘quabbles’ and finds new & excited things to do around the clock never missing a beat to explore and challenge every detail around her. Her chirp-chirps are barely audible compared to my Yellow-Naped Amazon – speaking of which neither appears affected by the other in their daily active life. What an awesome combination!!! I’m hoping to come back for SECONDS....another White Bellied Caique, that is. Thanks for all your help, direction, patience and quick replies to emails and phone calls. I’ll keep you posted with pics & updates. Thanks, Kate

They made it home perfectly, Gem rode on my shoulder and the baby rode on my sons. They are in their new home and doing well. I thank you for your hospitality and awesome birds.

Well, I bought a new heater for the room they are in and it’s about 68-70 all the time. I believe they are eating good too; there are seed hulls all over the place but I never see them actually eating. They want out all the time so that’s what they get!! Gem we found out likes his neck scratched so he won’t let you pick him up until he’s satisfied with the results. The baby (Ernie????? sons choice NOT mine) likes to be up on a shoulder the instant he’s out. My son will make a kissing sound and say give me kisses, he then gives him kisses either on his ear or nibbles on his cheek. He’s the hardest to get to go back in the cage. When they hear a train honking they decide they need to chirp loudly too. I know they are both drinking good too, I have seen them drinking from the water bottle.

Thanks again, Gene - Illinois

Dear Richelle,

My bird is doing great!! He absolutely loves me. He always wants to be on my shoulder. I taught him how to say something, it is kinda hard to put it words because it is a whistle call. We bought a new huge cage like 22X22X66. Once we get rid of our parakeets somehow we are probably going to get another cockatiel. I decided to name the cockatiel C.J it stands for Cracker Jack. hehe. Well I will update you on the bird every month or so.
